The regular session of the Transcarpathian Regional Council was highly productive: the deputies considered about 60 issues, approving each one almost unanimously. Andriy Sheketa, First Deputy Chairman of the Transcarpathian Regional Council, spoke in a brief interview about key decisions, institutional changes, and preparations for the session.
Innovations in education: supervisory boards involving employers
Andriy Sheketa called the formation of supervisory boards at vocational and pre-higher education institutions in Transcarpathia the most significant innovation of today’s meeting.
“We have established supervisory boards at eight vocational schools and colleges. This is a completely new initiative that did not exist before. It is important that half of the members of these boards are representatives of employers—the very people for whom these institutions are training specialists. This will help adapt the educational process to the real demands of the labor market and the challenges of today,” noted the first deputy chairman of the regional council.
Strengthening the Medical and Social Sectors
The changes also affected other municipal institutions in the region:
- Healthcare: A supervisory board has been formed for one of the regional hospitals. In addition to legislators, the board will include representatives of civil society organizations working in the healthcare sector.
- Social Protection: A decision was made to develop and expand the activities of the “Parasolka” Center in the city of Tyachiv—an institution that enjoys a strong reputation and the trust of international partners from Switzerland and France.
In addition, the deputies appointed the heads of various social institutions, resolved issues regarding the management of regional property, and adopted decisions in the field of culture.
Consensus in the Session Hall
According to Andriy Sheketa, none of the issues brought before the council were rejected, which attests to the high level of preparation of draft resolutions at the stage of specialized committees and the council’s administrative staff.
“We held some committee meetings in several stages to thoroughly work through each item. The result was a full understanding in the chamber and a unanimous vote,” the official concluded.
