“Satisfied or Not?”: What Residents Say About Their Salaries and Willingness to Change Jobs

The issue of wages and financial stability remains one of the most pressing. Journalists from the regional media outlet “Zakarpats’kyi Visnyk” conducted a street survey to find out whether city residents are satisfied with their income, whether they have enough money for daily expenses, and whether they are willing to change careers for higher pay.

Respondents’ opinions varied depending on their field of work, experience, and personal circumstances:

  • Remote Work in the Public Sector: A senior specialist in the Department of Education, Youth, and Sports (with nearly 4 years of experience in the field) noted that she considers her salary to be “normal.” The main advantage is the lack of commuting costs and additional daily expenses thanks to the remote work format. At the same time, she is open to considering a job change for a higher income.
  • Culture and Museums: A museum employee with over 30 years of experience candidly shared that she is dissatisfied with her income. According to her, current conditions have led to cutbacks and restrictions that ordinary employees have no control over. She hopes for stability and a return to previous income levels after the war. However, she has no plans to change jobs: her total income, including her pension, is equal to what she earned before retiring.
  • The Engineering Sector and Relocated Businesses: An engineer from Kramatorsk (with over 10 years of experience) said that after relocating, he found a job at a company that had been relocated from Energodar, and later moved to another position in his field. He considers his income to be quite sufficient for a single person and has no plans to change fields, as he values the social impact of his work.
  • Medical and laboratory sector: A laboratory worker with 5 years of experience briefly and confidently confirmed that she is completely satisfied with her salary.

The survey results show that for many people, it is not only the salary that matters, but also the work arrangement, a sense of fulfillment, and job stability.
