A family gathering turned into a bloody massacre. The 54-year-old host attacked a 67-year-old foreigner with a knife—the attacker’s sister managed to stop the murder.
In Svalyava, Mukachevo District, a family visit nearly ended in the death of a foreign guest. On November 2, a 67-year-old citizen of the Czech Republic was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition with life-threatening penetrating stab wounds to the chest.
According to the Transcarpathian Regional Police, the victim sustained the injuries at a relative’s private home.
A quarrel over a drink and a stab with a kitchen knife
An investigative team from the Mukachevo District Police Department established the full circumstances of the attack.
The foreign national and his wife had traveled to Transcarpathia to visit her 54-year-old brother. While drinking alcohol together, a sudden conflict arose between the men, which quickly escalated into a fight.
In the heat of the argument, the intoxicated host grabbed a kitchen knife and deliberately stabbed his relative twice directly in the chest. A fatal outcome was prevented only by the determination of the victim’s wife: the woman rushed between the men just in time, knocked the knife out of his hand, and stopped her enraged brother from killing her husband.
Temporary Detention Center and the Threat of Imprisonment
Law enforcement officers detained the 54-year-old assailant at the scene of the crime in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. The suspect was placed in a temporary detention facility (TTF). The weapon used in the crime—a bloodstained kitchen knife—was seized by forensic experts and added to the case file.
Police investigators have opened a criminal case under Part 2 of Article 15 and Part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (completed attempted murder).
Under the procedural guidance of the Mukachevo District Prosecutor’s Office, a notice of suspicion is being prepared for the detainee, along with a motion to the court to impose pretrial detention as a preventive measure. The penalty under this article provides for imprisonment for a term of 7 to 15 years.
