Starting November 1, eligible residents of the neighboring community can ride Uzhhorod’s public transportation for free using an electronic card. The Onokivska Territorial Community budget covers the reimbursement to the transit operators.
On November 1, 2026, a program providing free transportation for eligible passengers from the neighboring Onokivska territorial community began operating in Uzhhorod. Residents who are officially eligible for benefits and have obtained a special transit card can ride all municipal and city bus routes in the regional center free of charge.
The introduction of this service resulted from a bilateral agreement between the Uzhhorod City Council and the Onokivska Village Council regarding mutual settlement and compensation for transportation costs.
How to use the benefit: mandatory validation
The main rule for passengers when boarding is that every trip must be validated:
- Using the validator: Upon boarding the bus, a passenger eligible for a fare discount must tap their personal transit card on the electronic terminal (validator);
- Compensation mechanism: Recording the trip in the electronic system is a mandatory basis for mutual settlements—it is based on this data that the Onokivska Village Council reimburses carriers for the transportation services actually provided.
Where and how to apply for a card if you don’t have one yet
Residents of the Onokivska community who belong to eligible categories and have not yet had time to obtain a personal travel document can apply for one through a simplified procedure:
- Where to go: Administrative Services Center (ASC) of the Onokivka Village Council Executive Committee;
- Address: 2 Taras Shevchenko St., Onokivtsi village.
