A native of Energodar moved his wife and children to Zakarpattia, while he himself voluntarily joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The regional center bid farewell to the soldier on his final journey.
Uzhhorod once again bowed its head in deep mourning. Today, on Narodna Square, a funeral service was held for a soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Reserve Soldier Dmytro Yevhenovych Khimich, whose life was cut short.
His family, loved ones, fellow soldiers, Mayor Bohdan Andriyiv, and hundreds of concerned city residents came to pay their last respects to the Defender.
The Journey from Energodar to the Ranks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces
Dmytro Khimich was born on May 11, 1987, in the city of Energodar, Zaporizhzhia Oblast. He received his higher education in Kharkiv, successfully graduating from one of the region’s leading universities.
After the Russian Federation launched its full-scale invasion in 2022, Dmytro’s top priority became saving his loved ones: he evacuated his wife and children to the safer city of Uzhhorod. Once he was certain his family was safe, he did not stand idly by while his country was under attack; that same year, he volunteered to join the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Dmytro served as a reserve soldier in the enlisted platoon of military unit A7019. On October 9, 2026, the soldier’s life was tragically cut short.
Military honors at the Hill of Glory
The farewell ceremony on Narodna Square concluded with a joint prayer for the repose of the departed soldier’s soul. Afterward, the funeral procession set off for the city cemetery.
The defender was buried with full military honors on the Hill of Glory amid a farewell salute and the sounds of the Ukrainian national anthem performed by a military band.
Dmytro is survived by his wife, children, and grieving family.
The city community and all of Transcarpathia express their sincere condolences to the deceased’s family and loved ones. May the memory of this soldier, who stood up to defend his homeland, live on!
