A fire engulfed the roof and firewood supplies in the village of Liskovets. Villagers tried to fight the flames on their own, while firefighters from Mizhhiria saved a residential building and a neighboring structure.
A morning emergency in the Khust District nearly resulted in a local family losing their home. In the mountain village of Liskovets, an outbuilding caught fire on the grounds of a private homestead, posing a direct threat to the adjacent residential building.
Thanks to the timely alert and the swift response of the State Emergency Service firefighters, the spread of the flames into the apartment was stopped.
Neighbors’ attempts to contain the fire and a call to “101”
The fire broke out in the yard of a 65-year-old local resident. A column of thick smoke and the first flames were spotted by vigilant neighbors, who immediately dialed the emergency number for the State Emergency Service, “101.”
Before the fire department arrived, concerned villagers tried to contain the spread of the fire using buckets of water and whatever tools were at hand. However, due to the dry hay and firewood, the flames spread too quickly, engulfing the building’s roof.
Fire Extinguished and Property Saved
On-duty crews from the state rescue service in the village of Mizhhiria arrived at the scene.
By directing water streams to cool neighboring structures and contain the flames, the firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to residential areas. In less than an hour, the fire was completely extinguished across a total area of 50 square meters.
The fire destroyed the wooden roof and floor of an outbuilding, 2 cubic meters of split firewood, and about 0.2 metric tons of dry hay. The main achievement of the rescue workers was preventing the complete destruction of the owner’s residential house and another adjacent outbuilding.
There were no fatalities or injuries. The exact cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are being determined by relevant experts.
