The regional State Emergency Service units received two new pieces of specialized equipment with support from the European Union as part of a cross-border cooperation program with Romania.
The material and technical resources of Transcarpathian rescue workers have received another significant boost. Units of the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Transcarpathian Oblast have been equipped with a versatile backhoe loader and a powerful semi-trailer truck.
This modern equipment is designed to significantly speed up the response to emergencies, natural and man-made disasters, the clearing of debris from collapsed structures, and the performance of engineering work in the region, particularly under martial law.
The international “Karey–Khust” project, funded by the EU
The specialized equipment was purchased through the implementation of the international cross-border project “Beyond Borders and Beyond Disasters: Teamwork During Emergencies in the Cities of Carei and Khust.”
This initiative is being implemented with financial support from the European Union under the Interreg VI-A NEXT “Romania–Ukraine 2021–2027” program in close partnership with the municipality of the Romanian city of Carei.
This is not the first time the rescue teams’ equipment has been upgraded as part of this project: previously, a low-loader semi-trailer (trailer) was purchased to meet the operational needs of the region’s emergency responders for the rapid transport of large-scale engineering equipment.
Enhancing Readiness for Wartime Emergencies
The Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Zakarpattia Oblast emphasized that the arrival of the combined complex — consisting of a tractor, a semi-trailer, and a backhoe loader — forms a mobile engineering unit ready for immediate deployment to any mountainous or hard-to-reach location in the region.
The renewal of the vehicle fleet significantly expands the capabilities of emergency responders during search-and-rescue and recovery operations, strengthening the protection and civil safety of residents and visitors to Transcarpathia.
