As a result of a traffic accident, a young pedestrian sustained a closed head injury. An emergency medical team transported the child, accompanied by his mother, to the district hospital.
Another serious traffic accident involving a minor occurred on the roads of Zakarpattia. In one of the towns in the Rakhiv district, a passenger car struck a 9-year-old pedestrian.
Details regarding the medical care provided to the injured child were reported by the “Transcarpathian Regional Center for Emergency Medical Care and Disaster Medicine.”
Medical Response and Hospitalization
The collision occurred suddenly right on the roadway. Eyewitnesses and distraught relatives immediately dialed the emergency medical services number “103.”
Emergency medical team No. 1201, led by paramedic O. M. Azberger, arrived promptly at the scene:
- During the urgent initial examination, the specialists diagnosed the boy with a suspected closed head injury (CHI) and contusions;
- the patient was provided with a full range of prehospital care to stabilize his condition;
- The boy and his mother were urgently transported by special medical transport to the Rakhiv District Hospital for X-rays, a CT scan, and further inpatient treatment.
An investigative team from the Rakhiv District Police Department was on the scene of the accident, working to determine all the circumstances of the collision and the legality of the driver’s actions.
Doctors’ Warning: The Hidden Dangers of Head Injuries in Children
Emergency medicine specialists emphasize that traumatic brain injuries resulting from vehicle collisions are highly insidious. Often, immediately after the incident, the child’s condition may appear satisfactory due to stress or shock, while dangerous intracranial processes (edema, hematoma) develop later.
Critical symptoms requiring immediate rehospitalization or calling “103”:
- recurrent nausea or sudden vomiting;
- worsening and throbbing headache;
- unusual drowsiness, lethargy, apathy, or a sudden loss of activity;
- confusion, disorientation, or severe dizziness.
Medical professionals and law enforcement officials are urging drivers to observe speed limits within villages and cities, especially near schools, playgrounds, and crosswalks.
