A training camp for the country’s top athletes has begun at Avangard Stadium . Athletes from Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Dnipro, and Odesa have arrived in the regional capital.
Uzhhorod has once again confirmed its status as one of the country’s leading sports hubs for para-athletes. The Uzhhorod City Council’s “Avangard” Municipal Stadium has once again become a key venue for the national Paralympic track and field team’s training in preparation for major international competitions.
This was reported by the Department of Culture, Youth, and Sports of the Uzhhorod City Council.
A Geography of Resilience and Camp Participants
This training camp brought together outstanding representatives of Ukrainian para-sports from frontline and resilient cities:
- Regional representation: Athletes from Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, Kharkiv, and Odesa gathered in Uzhhorod;
- Sports-related medical conditions: Track and field athletes with musculoskeletal disorders, visual impairments, and intellectual and physical developmental disabilities (IPDD) compete on the tracks and in the stadium events.
Avangard’s Infrastructure for World Records
The Avangard Stadium has traditionally served as a reliable home base for national teams. State-of-the-art running tracks, fully equipped areas for jumping, shot put, javelin, and discus, as well as a barrier-free environment, allow for comprehensive, cyclical training at the highest intensity levels.
Paralympic track and field demands iron discipline, precision technique, and tremendous self-control from athletes. The training camp in Uzhhorod will be an important step in getting into shape ahead of the upcoming European and World Championships.
The city’s community warmly welcomes these Ukrainian sports heroes and wishes them safe and productive training sessions, a chance to recharge, and new medal victories on the international stage.
