In the Tyachiv District of Zakarpattia Oblast, a 17-year-old boy was hospitalized following a household accident after sustaining serious injuries and significant blood loss when he broke a glass door.
This was reported on the official page of the Transcarpathian Regional Center for Emergency Medical Care and Disaster Medicine (103 Transcarpathia – ZCEMD MK).
According to medical personnel, the incident occurred the day before. A 17-year-old local resident, either due to careless behavior or a domestic dispute, struck the glass in the door with his hand, causing it to shatter.
The young man sustained severe injuries—deep cuts in the shoulder and armpit areas, accompanied by intense and life-threatening bleeding.
Medical Response and Hospitalization
Upon seeing the profuse bleeding, relatives or witnesses immediately called for emergency medical assistance. A team from the Tyachiv Emergency Medical Service Substation No. 1412, led by paramedic K. V. Ferim, arrived promptly at the scene.
Medical personnel immediately examined the victim, quickly stopped the bleeding, applied pressure bandages, and provided all necessary first aid to stabilize the teenager’s condition. The injured teenager was then immediately transported to the Tyachiv District Hospital for further examination, surgery, and treatment. His life is currently not in danger, but he faces a long recovery process ahead.
How Dangerous Are Glass Cuts: Expert Advice
Transcarpathian medical professionals are once again reminding residents of the region about the high risk of household injuries involving glass. Even a wound from broken glass that seems minor at first glance can have extremely serious consequences, as sharp shards can damage major blood vessels, nerve endings, and tendons, which can lead to loss of limb mobility or even fatal blood loss.
First aid guidelines for cuts from broken glass:
1. If there is heavy bleeding, immediately apply pressure to the wound with a clean napkin, gauze, bandage, or any piece of clean cloth;
2. Maintain pressure until medical help arrives; if possible, raise the injured limb above the level of your heart;
3. Under no circumstances should you attempt to remove glass shards deeply embedded in the wound yourself, as this can cause or significantly worsen internal or external bleeding. The removal of shards should be performed exclusively by doctors in a hospital setting!
The editorial staff of “Zakarpattia Visnyk” wishes the young man a speedy and successful recovery!
