Today, August 16, Uzhhorod once again became the site of a peaceful rally aimed at
drawing the attention of the public and the government to the plight of Ukrainian servicemen who
are being held captive or are considered missing in action.
Hope That Never Fades
Families of servicemen who have had no information about
their loved ones for months, and sometimes even years, took to the city’s main streets. In their hands were posters, photographs, and flags
of the brigades in which their loved ones served. These people are united by a shared pain and a common goal—
to uncover the truth.
“We are taking to the streets to ensure the world does not forget about our missing loved ones.
We are in a desperate situation, because neither Russia confirms the whereabouts of our loved ones, nor
can our authorities provide clear answers. But we believe they are alive. They
are not just numbers; they are people whose wives, mothers, and children are waiting for them,” says one of the
participants in the rally, whose husband went missing in the Donetsk region back in early 2023.
Why are these protests important?
Each of these events is not only a heartfelt cry from the relatives but also a way to keep the issue of the release of
Ukrainian prisoners of war and the search for those missing in action in the spotlight of public and international attention.
Participants in the event note that the support of passersby, car horns, and media coverage
give them the strength to continue the fight.
The families of the missing heroes are actively gathering any information, communicating with those who
have returned from captivity, and hoping for an exchange as soon as possible.
Campaigns in support of prisoners of war and those missing in action have become a regular occurrence for
in Uzhhorod. These people prove that no one is forgotten, and the fight for every defender
will continue until the very last one returns home.
