Death in the ICU and Drugs in His Blood: A Man Who Stabbed His 80-Year-Old Father to Death Was Taken into Custody in Khust

Medical personnel were unable to save the injured retiree—his heart stopped due to massive blood loss. The court sentenced the attacker, who had a prior conviction, to prison without the possibility of bail.

A violent family drama that unfolded in Khust on November 2 ended in the victim’s death. An 80-year-old man, who had been hospitalized with multiple stab wounds, died in the intensive care unit.

The Khust District Court granted the district prosecutor’s office’s motion and imposed a non-alternative preventive measure—detention—on the 47-year-old suspect.

The Transcarpathian Regional Prosecutor’s Office reported new details and the reclassification of the crime.

The Raid on the House and Death from Blood Loss

The tragedy occurred in a residential neighborhood around 4:40 p.m. A neighbor heard an elderly man screaming for help from inside the house and immediately called 102. When the police arrived at the scene, no one responded to their knocking or demands to let them in, so the officers broke down the door.

Inside, law enforcement officers found the 80-year-old homeowner bleeding profusely and his 47-year-old son armed with a knife. The attacker was apprehended right next to his wounded father. As it turned out, the suspect already had a criminal record and had been prosecuted previously.

The emergency medical team rushed the victim, who had multiple stab and cut wounds to the head, arms, and legs, to the intensive care unit. Despite the medical staff’s best efforts, the pensioner’s life could not be saved due to severe blood loss.

Drug intoxication and up to 10 years in prison

The results of laboratory toxicology tests officially confirmed that the man was under the influence of drugs during the bloody attack on his father.

In light of the victim’s death, police investigators reclassified the crime under a more serious provision of the law. The suspect has been officially notified of charges under Part 2 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (intentional grievous bodily injury resulting in the victim’s death).

The Khust District Court remanded the suspect to a pretrial detention center without the right to bail. The penalty under this provision is imprisonment for a term of 7 to 10 years.

The pretrial investigation is being conducted by investigators from the Khust District Police Department under the procedural supervision of the local district prosecutor’s office.
