Trufanets Waterfall: The Tallest Natural Single-Tier Waterfall in Transcarpathia

Trufanets is a true natural treasure of the region—the highest natural single-tier waterfall in Transcarpathia. It is located on the Trufanets Stream (a right tributary of the Black Tisa) in the Rakhiv District, on the slopes of the Svidovets Range, between the city of Rakhiv and the village of Yasinya.

Geographical Characteristics

The waterfall is hidden in a picturesque gorge right next to the highway. The water plunges from a height of 36 meters, forming several cascades wedged between rocky outcrops and thickets of Carpathian forest. The stream originates in the highlands of the Svidovets mountain pastures and rushes downward at incredible speed.

Uniqueness and Accessibility

The main advantage of Trufanets is its excellent accessibility by road. Unlike many other high-altitude waterfalls, which require a long hike to reach, Trufanets is located literally just a few meters from the road (on the Rakhiv–Yasinya highway). A special observation bridge-gazebo has been built above the waterfall, offering a magnificent view of the entire cascade.

Practical Information for Tourists

  • How to get there: By car or by bus on the Mukachevo/Uzhhorod–Rakhiv–Yasinya route. The observation deck is clearly visible from the road, and there are small pull-offs nearby for vehicles to stop.
  • What to combine with this trip: A trip to Trufanets can easily be combined with a hike up the Svidovets Ridge (to the high-altitude lakes of Hereshache or Vorozheska) or a trip to the geographical center of Europe in the village of Dilove.
