The investigative actions are linked to the case of his predecessor, Ihor Tyshchuk, who was previously taken into custody for accepting bribes in cryptocurrency in exchange for referrals to rear support units.
Officers of the Security Service of Ukraine are conducting investigative actions and searches in the office of Oleksandr Shapoval, head of the Uzhhorod District Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support (RTCRS).
This was reported by journalist Vitaliy Glagola, citing his own informed sources within the region’s law enforcement agencies.
Investigation into the Predecessor and a Corruption Scheme Involving Cryptocurrency
According to preliminary information, the security forces’ visit is directly linked to criminal proceedings against the former head of the Uzhhorod RTCS, Igor Tyshchuk, who was detained on October 30:
- Pre-trial measure for Tyshchuk: According to sources, the court has already granted the prosecutor’s office’s motion and ordered the former official to be held in custody;
- “Logistics service” fee: Investigators are verifying reports that $4,000 was extorted from conscripts in exchange for assistance in assigning them to logistics units instead of sending them to active combat zones;
- Shadow cryptocurrency transactions: Funds were transferred via digital cryptocurrency wallets and only later converted into cash to conceal the financial flows.
Possible Involvement of the Current Military Commissar
According to the journalist’s sources in law enforcement, the detained Tyshchuk may have involved the newly appointed head of the Regional Military Registration and Enlistment Office, Oleksandr Shapoval, in carrying out previously reached illegal agreements.
At this time, Oleksandr Shapoval’s final procedural status has not been officially announced, and no charges or formal suspicion have been brought against him. Law enforcement officials are determining the scope of the seized physical evidence and investigating whether the uncovered incidents are linked to other cases of extortion of unlawful benefits at military registration and enlistment offices in Zakarpattia.
An official statement is expected from the SBU Office in Zakarpattia Oblast and the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Defense Affairs in the Western Region.
