Spiritual Exploration of Their Native Land: Students from the Rosvyhiv Sunday School in Mukachevo Took a Pilgrimage to the Monasteries of Transcarpathia

With the blessing of Metropolitan Theodore, the children visited historic monasteries in Zarichove, Kostryna, and Uzhhorod. The trip concluded with prayer at the All-Night Vigil and a meeting with a spiritual mentor.

Today, November 7, a significant spiritual and educational event took place for the young people of Mukachevo. With the blessing of His Eminence Theodore, Metropolitan of Mukachevo and Uzhhorod, who heads the Mukachevo Diocese, students from the Sunday school of the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God, located in the Rosvyhovo neighborhood, set out on a grand pilgrimage to the diocese’s holy sites together with their teachers.

The spiritual visit was announced on Metropolitan Theodore’s official website.

Route through the holy sites: from Perechyn and Velyky Berezny districts to Uzhhorod

During the one-day prayer journey, the young pilgrims learned about the monastic way of life, history, and architecture of famous Transcarpathian monasteries:

  • St. Mary Magdalene Women’s Monastery (village of Zarichovo): the first stop in a picturesque corner of the Uzhanska Valley, where the children had the opportunity to venerate the local holy sites;
  • The Holy Protection Men’s Monastery (village of Kostrino): an introduction to the mountain monastic community of the Velyky Berezny region;
  • Monastery in Honor of the Praise of the Most Holy Mother of God (Uzhhorod): prayer in the monastery church of the regional center.

Meeting with the spiritual father and a communal monastic meal

A special and culminating stop for the young people from Mukachevo was a visit to the Holy Resurrection Men’s Monastery in Uzhhorod:

  • A warm welcome from the spiritual director: the group was greeted by the monastery’s abbot, Archimandrite Dionysius (Hangur), who also serves as the spiritual director and head of the Sunday school at the cathedral in Rosvyhiv;
  • Participation in the divine service: the children joined the monastic community in prayerful communion during the festive All-Night Vigil;
  • A fraternal meal: After the service, a warm communal monastic dinner was organized for the young guests and their teachers.

Filled with blessed impressions, joy from praying together, and new knowledge about their homeland, the young pilgrims returned safely to Mukachevo.
